Crunch Time

Add another loss to the records of both USI basketball squads after a tumultuous weekend. The Lady Eagles battled hard in the first half, but the strong guard play for the Greyhounds downed USI for their 14th loss of the season. Not much has gone right for the Lady Eagles, especially in GLVC play. The Eagles haven't seen this type of attrition since the 2007-2008 season when they finished with a 5-14 conference record. USI would have to win out to surpass that mark and with the opponents left on the docket, the post-season hopes of the young Eagles look bleak.
For the Men's squad, it's quite the opposite outlook. The men have solidified themselves as conference championship contenders, but can't seem to break the trend of bad losses. The Eagles held a 14 point lead at the half at Nichoson Hall, but a combination of phenomenal play by UIndy bench player Jarrett Hamilton and the Eagles' futility from the field led to USI's 4th loss of the year. That equals the loss total from last year's entire regular season. This means the Eagles will need to steal a few wins that didn't occur in 2010-2011. Like beating the #1 team in the nation at the PAC and coming out of the Owensboro SportsCenter victorious over the #7 ranked team in the nation.
With the tough tests ahead for both squads, the Eagles will need all the help they can get. So make sure you come out and support your peers and cheer the Eagles on to victory!

Another USI Great Enters "The Hall"

The Great Lakes Valley Conference has announced it's 2012 inductees for the conference hall of fame and a familiar USI face is one of the select few. As the only Lady Eagle to ever play in 4 NCAA D2 Tournaments, Eileen Weber becomes only the second Lady Eagle inducted into the GLVC Hall of Fame. Weber along with teammate LeAnn Freeland, who was a 2004 hall of fame inductee, created havoc for opposing teams. From 1994 till 1998, Weber garnered 4 All-GLVC honors and ranks 2nd all-time in scoring in the USI record books. Weber is also known for her junior season when she led her team USI team to the National Championship game. Eileen Weber is also a 2009 inductee of the USI Sports Hall of Fame.
